About the event

New Regulation (RHCD Nº 888/2018)

The OLIMPÍADA ACADÉMICA NACIONAL DE ESTUDIANTES DE MEDICINA is an event organized annually by the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Cordoba. Its purpose is to bring together students with the best grade point averages from all the Public Universities in Argentina. In addition to its academic nature, it aims to generate an environment of fellowship and camaraderie that rewards the efforts of the outstanding students from the respective universities.


  • Promote competition among peers as a way to encourage continued self-improvement.
  • Provide students the opportunity for self-assessment of his/her academic performance.
  • Evaluate current teaching-learning methods used in our universities for training future biomedical professionals.
  • Promote the integration and collaborations among the participating universities.
  • Set a precedent for celebrating academic excellence through this type of event nationally and internationally.
  • Encourage dialogue and interaction between participants so that they recognize and respect eachothers differences thus facilitating their integration, as future medical doctors, into society.
  • Work with university faculty providing them feedback, from a students' point of view, about the many subjects and issues that go into educating and training a medical doctor

Students in the final 3 years (Clinical Cycle) of their medical studies. Up to 30 medical students per delegation per university. Each student delegation must be accompanied by at least one (1) faculty representative from the respective university.


  • Possess a minimum general average of 7 (seven) points (with postponements) in the subjects of the Basic Cycle evaluated in the Exam.
  • Completed and passed all subjects of the Basic Cycle in a period not exceeding 3.5 years.

Consists of 100 multiple choice questions from subjects taught in the first 3 years of medical studies (Basic Cycle) listed below. Ten of the questions are in English and an additional 10 optional extra questions, focused on General Culture are included:

  • Descriptive Anatomy
  • Histology, Cytology, and Embryology
  • Biochemistry
  • Biophysics
  • Physiology
  • Pathology
  • Parasitology and Mycology
  • Bacteriology and Virology

The Organizing Committee will award prizes to the participants with the highest number of correct answers, both in the Basic Cycle, and in the General Culture questions. In case of a tie, the students' overall Basic Cycle grade point average will be taken into consideration.

4th and 5th year Medical students from Argentine Public Universities who have completed their first 3 years of medical school (Basic Cycle) in no more than 3.5 years with an overall grade point average of no less than seven (7) in the 8 (eight) major subjects in the Basic Cycle.

1st and 2nd Place: One-month internship at the Universities of Yale and JW Goethe (The 1st place winner can choose the destination of his/her choice).


All Medical Schools of Public Universities in Argentine whose students have completed and passed the 1st 3 years of medical studies (Basic Cycle) in a period not exceeding 3.5 years are eligible to participate. Each participating university may use whatever method they consider appropriate for selecting students to participate.
